Один американец мне рассказывал, что он воевал в подразделении, которое называлось "Snakе Eaters" (штурмовой батальон, кажется). Может, это значит быть сорвиголовой (как он мне объяснял)?

Что я могу сказать? В экстремальных условиях змею съесть не западло :), так что если ты через это прошел - можешь считать себя очень крутым... наверно, это и имелось в виду.

well, this idiom means eating something which you were not supposed to ever eat and falling sick...snake eaters catch snakes...and, are never supposed to eat them

sounds like snake eater means dick sucker or cock
sucker or sucks dick.snake is a common american slang

Snake eater -- where does that term come from?
That is an old expression from the beginning of Special Forces. They would have demonstrations at Fort Bragg [U.S. Special Forces headquarters in North Carolina] to demonstrate their animalism and they would bite the head off a chicken or bite a snake in half.

I also think that term is used by military to describe a soldier who is crazy or psycho.
Snake eater in this context is someone who is so ruthless he will do things no one else can do to win.
Like an animal would.
