Fundamental to correctly simulating the flow in the problem is the issue of turbulence modeling and modeling of turbulent mixing. Due to a very high Reynolds number within the outlet pipe (1.6E+06) a LES is computationally not feasible. Therefore, one is limited to classical Reynold`s averaging of the Navier-Stokes Equations (RANS) for the modeling of turbulent momentum transport.
