На кривых улицах не горел ни один фонарь, неказистые домишки кривились то влево, то вправо, от помойных куч несло смрадом. Здесь не ходили, а скользили, шныряли, ковыляли вдоль стен: вынырнет серя тень из неприметной дверки, позыркает туда-сюда, прошмыгнет улицей и опять растает в какой-нибудь щелке. Крысиная страна.___________________________ The place turned out to be very disgusting. A sort of a dungeon teeming with shadows rather than with living creatures. The curved streets didn’t have a single lantern, plain houses bended to and fro, rubbish pits emitted a rancid stench. They didn’t walk here. They glided, poked about, and hobbled against the walls here. A shadow would appear out of an inconspicuous door glancing back and forth and disappear again. Rats’ place. | Поправил бы почти все, но некогда. Надо сына на занятия вести. Ну, хотя бы с самого начала. Gruesome place. Почему же disgusting? |
