Прошу подсказок у всех, кто в той или иной степени разбирается в теме.
Мне нужно красиво перевести выделенные кавычками слова и выражения(ниже их приведен контекст, его не нужно переводить).
Смысл их ясен, но не знаю, как нужно выражать это по-русски...

Мои варианты переводов похожи на перевод электронного словаря, поэтому я их не цитирую:)

"show respect for their character":
New buildings will defer to the existing buildings, and show respect for their character.
