I am fond of that expression, aren't you?

It means that (whatever happens to be the subject at hand) is fair enough that you agree. It's rather hard to explain because this isn't an expression but a legitimate use ofдн two words in the language. It originated in the early 1900s America, as a colloquialism. Examples: "I'll do the dishes if you sweep the floor" "Fair enough" "You need to cut your hair if you want to keep working here" "Fair enough |
You use "fair enough" when you want to say that a statement, decision, or action seems reasonable to a certain extent, but that perhaps there is more to be said or done. ( mainly SPOKEN ) If you don’t like it, fair enough, but that’s hardly a justification to attack the whole thing... Collins Cobuild |

it's a very, very widely used phrase and often doesn't mean a lot. In my experience, many people use it neutrally, as if to say, 'that's fine' or, 'that's a valid point'. But maybe this will help http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090128084556AAFkBso but it can also be used ironically, to avoid confrontation (i.e. 'you're a complete bastard but i'm not gonna argue with you coz you're 10 stone heavier than me' ;-)) also cockney rhyming slang for 'furry muff' (but I didn't say that) ;-))))) |
