The 48101 and the gauge to the right, 43300 go together. They are usually found as the essential components to a Flow Bench. Buying them as separate items saves money. The blue hose attaches to the back of the Magnehelic gauge. The gauge is very sensitive, is precise, and measures the cracking effort of a regulator. The cracking effort is measured in inches of water!! The mouthpiece on the other end of the blue hose is inserted into or over the mouthpiece of the regulator that has been serviced. The operator draws on the other end and when the regulator starts giving air the cracking effort is measured on the gauge. Good regulators (easy to breathe with) have cracking efforts from < than 1.0 to 2.5" H2O. Crummy regulators many times have a greater cracking effort.
