"Picking Labels Overview

One of the most important elements of warehouse management system is order picking. This is a process of selecting appropriate items in a warehouse that make up a customer’s order. Companies receive many orders each day and they now compete in how fast they can deliver their customers’ orders. The shipping time of an order vastly depends on the warehouse organization and the organization of the order picking process.
Order picking can be organized in many ways. One of the ways a person can organize order picking is using picking labels. Picking labels are part of an order list that a picker uses to identify items needed for picking. Each label contains a pick date, ID of the item for picking, item description and quantity of items to be picked. It can also contain an ASAP mark, if it is an urgent order.
Once an item is found, the picker takes the appropriate picking label from an order list and sticks it on that particular item, which marks the end of that selection and eliminates the possibility of a mistake – i. e. selecting a wrong item. When all available items from an order list are picked, they are moved to the shipping section to be sent to the customer. Picking labels remaining on the order list, if there are any, indicate ordered items that are out of stock.
