To 'service' a vehicle means to check it, eg every year, to ensure that all of its parts -- the engine, wheels, electronics etc -- are working properly.

Lockable service cover
Inside the truck's front service cover is a

locked when the driver door is locked,

I don't think it is a box. It's rather a front lid on the engine compartment (as shown in the fig on page 48).

If his/her text says it's a Volvo lorry then fine, it could well be the part shown in your catalogue. But if not, it could be any size, on any vehicle, and anywhere on it -- in the engine compartment, the boot (US: trunk), inside the vehicle, or even on the side. Again, eye-catcher may be able to tell us.

When I say 'box', I mean box/compartment/recess/something of a similar shape with a space inside, with a lid on the top.

I live in a south-facing, two-bedroom flat with a lockable front door. But that doesn't mean that 'lockable front door' can ONLY refer to a south-facing, two-bedroom flat; it could be part of a north-/east-/west-facing flat, house, factory, office, school, hospital or other building.
