Возможно, следует поступить по аналогии с: From Rapid City south and west a network of federal and state roads ties the Black Hills together. Источник: Black Hills, Custer County, Wind Cave National Park (N.P.) Вернее, a network of regional and local roads Только подставьте, если надо ввести наши реалии, oblast and raion. |
Благодарю Вас |

A well-developed network of oblast(1) and regional roads perhaps with a footnote for oblast saying something like: (1) A Russian administrative area roughly equivalent to a UK county or a small US state. |

district centers / regional centers (capital cities) |
a small US state? that's not fair! Areas 25,000 km2 (9,500 sq mi) (Oryol Oblast) – 768,000 km2 (296,500 sq mi) (Irkutsk Oblast) |

Aiduza: I thought someone would say that! Also your oblasts are probably slightly(!) bigger than our (UK) counties. In fact, everything's bigger than our counties! However, they were the closest I could think of in terms of their importance/their position in the administrative hierarchy. It's not an accurate comparison in terms of size, though, I admit! |

not always the sizes of territories can be expressed and compared in terms of square kilometers (or miles); more often than not one has to also factor in and mention the essential landmarks and natural and artificial wonders. same goes for the significance of roads or their networks e.g. a road connecting four medieval castles and seven whisk(e)y distilleries says a whole lot more than any mileage figures |

Novgorodskaya oblast) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Veliky Novgorod. +++ Arkadaksky District (Russian: Аркада́кский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the thirty-eight in Saratov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,200 square kilometers (850 sq mi).[5] Its administrative center is the town of Arkadak.[2] Population: 26,236 (2010 Census);[6] |

If 'областного значения'/'районного значения' only appear this once (ie, the translation overall isn't about oblasts/regions or different grades of roads) then, on reflection, either crockodile's 'district roads' or trtrtr's 'local roads' is probably better than my 'oblast roads'. If you translate it as 'oblast' it will obviously be more accurate and will preserve the 'Russian-ness' of it, but 99+% of UK/US readers won't know what you're talking about -- and if you try to explain it, it'll probably just be giving them unnecessary detail. So, ЭкаБиз -- is the translation overall mainly about local administrative areas, or roads, or something else? |
