It's referring to sth that's just happened -- see the preceding paragraph, which for some reason the asker didn't mention. It's about two cats running along, one behind the other: "Mungojerrie hurried along, admiring the clear, lovely night. Suddenly he stopped short, causing Rumpleteazer to run smack into him. "Owwie! Wot'd ya do tha' fo'?" Rumpleteazer asked, pushing herself off her twin's back." So in this case it's 'did', not 'would'. And 'Owwie!' is just a cry of pain. |
