Is there any understanding (cooperation) between you and the boss? You are the translator (interpreter) so if it is impossible then it is impossible. Of course, I might be dreaming... But the name is really hard to translate in Russian, and if you do translate the names, how would you say "Mil" in the second name you gave? (if you spelled it correctly). |

it's not even the matter of cooperation. he has hired you, so he needs a translator, he can't translate himself. it's you who's supposed to know how and what to translate. if he asks you to translate his surname into English (because nobody is going to understand what it means if you simply write it using Latin letters) would you do so? |

marlene you tell your boss that translating the name is not proper practice and as a matter of principle you will not do it. transliterate and put the translation in ( ) if he wants one, but do not give in just because he said to do it. i almost got fired once for arguing over here, but it was worth it in the long run as they started doing things the right way |

тут еще фишка в том, что "Global Engineered Products" значит слишком много и ничего не значит :) склейте наиболее сочетающиеся варианты перевода каждого слова и всё равно ерунда получится. я поддерживаю dear All |

And as far as I am concerned there is some point in what she says: the text will be given to Russian safety engineers, some of them are far from knowing English or even being able to read English names. If I just transcribe those names they will be as perplexed as having to read them in English, so it is kinda translation challenge |

| А зачем инженерам знать переводы компаний? Как часто они будут их читать? В письмах они смогут переписать названия, в разговорной речи между собой можно сократить. Все же привыкли к "Юниверсал Студио" и "Коламбиа пикчерз", когда смотрят фильмы. Это, конечно, не совсем по делу, но тем не менее. на Вашем месте я бы все-таки поговорила с боссом, мягко но настойчиво. |

Группа предприятий (Вам известно где они находятся?) например Европейская Группа Предприятий (Глобал Энджиниерд Продактс). Уверен, что ваши инженеры не совсем уж отсталые люди (на то они и инженеры) и к подобным названиям привыкли. |
