A component of military art, embracing both the theory and the practice of preparing and conducting operations involving subunits, units ships and tactical formations of the various armed forces, arms of the service, arm or branch and specialized support troops. Theoretical tactics examines the principles, nature and essential features of combat, developing procedures for its preparation and conduct. Applied tactics covers the practice of tactical-level commanders, staffs and troops in preparing for and engaging in combat.
